Looking to replace my present Notebook Hp dv7 pavillion 4gb ram and duo processor, its not doing the job with PS.

I have been considering the Lenovo line.

The Y510 Processor 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4700MQ Processor (2.40GHz 1600MHz 6MB) -Operating system Windows 8 64 -Display 15.6" FHD LED Anti-Glare Wedge 1920x1080 -Graphics NVIDIA GeForcE GT750M GDDR5 2GB -Memory 8.0GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600 MHz -Hard Drive 1TB 5400 RPM + 24GB SSD -Optical Drive Blu-ray/DVD-RW -Network Card Intel Centrino Wireless N-2230 -Bluetooth Bluetooth Version 4.0 -Warranty One year -Battery 6 Cell Lithium-Ion

What I would like is to upgrade to 16GB memory and 256SSD Also I would rather run windows 7 .
They will not allow any customazation on these. So I would have to add myself once I have it.

It comes with a haskell quad core processor which is suppose to extend battery life and run a bit faster than the 3rd generation Ivy Bridge. I have a 3rd generation Ivy and SSD drive in my Desktop and run the programs described above and would consider it quite fast and happy with it.

Lenovo says you can upgrade to 16gb and SSD, but they dont offer those upgrades in the Y, you would have to go to the W to get those upgrades. Lenovo recommends running Windows 8 with the 4th Generation Intel Core i7, as they say it was designed around that. Can I run Windows 7 ??? as I prefer to use it.

Should I be considering any other laptop/notebook manufacture also.

Considering your needs, I would look into laptop resellers. Major OEMs will only let you customize the system to a degree, and if you do certain upgrades yourself, you void the manufacturer warranty; the only exception that I know of to this is with Sager systems (Sager is a Clevo reseller, like us). At least with a reseller, you can configure the laptop to quite a degree, having the capacity to change the CPU, RAM, storage drive, wireless NIC, operating system, screen, etc.

Also, it is possible to run Windows 7, though major OEMs usually do NOT offer a choice, and there's a chance they won't support you over the phone in troubleshooting if you install it after purchase. There's also the possibility that some drivers will not work...

There's also the possibility that some drivers will not work under Windows 7, in which case, the corresponding hardware will not function (or will operate in reduced/impaired functionality). If it comes with Windows 8 from factory, that's what they want you to use.

Thanks Prostar, looks like I will have to go with the W in the Lenovo lineup then. As it comes with windows 7 , ssd and 16gb ram. The only thing that doesn't sit wright, is I am paying for a video card, that has capabilities I dont need. In essence, over buying.

Should I be considering any other laptop/notebook manufacture also

You're welcome!

Wow, yeah that's an expensive card. For whatever it's worth to you, I've read that AMD cards are actually better for the types of applications you'll be using; many of those programs run better with OpenCL, and it seems only the AMD cards have native OpenCL support.
