5.1 channel coax to toslink

Hi

Explanation:
My family got a 5.1 channel coax surround sound kit when my house was built, and it's wired pretty well. I can't find any blu ray players or AV receivers that still have a coaxial output. We used to run some TV shows in surround sound, but we upgraded our receiver, and it also no longer uses coaxial.

We want to upgrade to a blu-ray/dvd AV Receiver. It appears to be a single RG6 (or similar) cable, but it has no labeling. Is there an adapter available to convert this into 5.1 channel optical?

after reading your post, I'm scratching my head as to what it is exactly you're trying to connect and what it is you're planning to purchase...

can you make it simple and list model numbers of equipment you have that needs to be connected together, and possible upgrades you might be looking at...

i dont think a dvd/BR player/reciever would use rg6 for digital audio. it would use RCA, Optical, and/or HDMI. a reciever may have a rg6 like connector for AM/FM radio. it would be identified with an impedance number (omega)

as for a optical to coaxial converter, they do exist. you can find them at any audio/video shop. even walmart. they can range in price from $10 to $100.

For some reason, the sound output on my dvd player looks like rg6 coax. I'll update after I get another chance to look at it, which will not be until tomorrow morning.

Sorry for the delay.

On the dvd player, I have component out to the TV and some audio ports are filled, but it's connected to something via a screw-in coax connection similar to an rg6 video connection.

I think it might be connected to the surround sound with the normal plugs. I'll try to find the manual.

RG-6 COAX is a cable which can be used for many applications. Commscope makes the best RG-6 which I've used thousands of feet of, for audio interconnects between receivers and sources. Simply terminate the cable with an RCA and it's and audio and/or video interconnect. Terminate with an F connector and it's a cable/satellite feed.

I think it's time to upgrade your gear to ones with HDMI connections. Component is last decades' technology. Simplify your life with HDMI. A new receiver with HDMI inputs to connect the BRD player, gaming console, media pc, satellite/cable box, etc. One HDMI to your TV from the receiver. For backup, Toslink cables from each source to the receiver.

Yes, that's the plan in getting a receiver instead of just a blu-ray/dvd player. By christmas, we'll be using ps2, ps3, xbox 360, and ps4 (but not xbox one, bad internet situation). Gaming consoles plus dvr pass through and output to TV and surround sound.
