Hello, i want to buy a new 17" laptop under 1000 USD for office use and occasional gaming. I am currently between 2 laptops with almost identical features and prices, so i would like your opinion on which one is better in terms of quality and reliability (plastic parts, overheating, screen contrast etc).

1) Lenovo G780 (1050 USD)
CPU = i7 3632QM
GPU = nVidia GT635M
RAM = 4GB DDR3 @ 1600
(LAN = 100M)

2) Asus K75VJ-TY005H (980 USD)
CPU = i7 3630QM
GPU = nVidia GT635M
RAM = 8GB DDR3 @ 1600
(LAN = 1000M)

Asus is obviously the better value since it's cheaper and you get more RAM. It's hard to tell if the laptop will suffer from overheating issues just one specs alone. You would actually need to run tests to measure the internal temps. However, as a general rule, the larger the laptop, the larger the heatsink and possible airflow.

Since the Asus is not sold in the US, I assume you live elsewhere.

It's a tough call. There are many people who like both companies. However, Asus seems to have a bit more complaints about their customer service (or lack there of), but that's in the US. I'm not sure about internationally.

If possible, look for a store that may carry them and check them out for yourself. Otherwise, I would likely go with Asus just due to the price.
