Does MS ever say "Operation system" !?

do i have a virus if it says operation system not found - and I am quoting right -- it doesn't say operating system

I've never seen that in any MS error message. Ever.
Something else is going on.

If you're inside Windows you clearly have an operating system. With that in mind, if a pop-up appears that says anything like that, yes it's from some sort of malware.

If in windows you get this message, you got malware, download malware bytes and rogue killer.

If you start you computer and you get a black screen and you get that message:

1- your hard drive is dead and needs to be replaced
2- windows is corrupted - get your installation disk and boot from it.
Then try to repair windows. Go on google and type "repair windows X" + " operation system not found"

X is version of windows (xp, vista, 7 or 8) and you should find instruction on how to do it.

Things have been getting progressively worse. A couple weeks of the little blue spinning circle before any task completed. And error 951 in Outlook as well as an outlook message that it could only complete 1 of 2 tasks synching with email. (I was using aol and also using outlook for email, which I thought should be stopped but didn't.) Yesterday a couple blue screen crashes.
Just now I could click to the boot menu. But if it's a virus, I don't want to take actions that will let it do more (if there's any more worse to get!)
I'd appreciate hearing suggestions about what to do next.
