How about a convertible tablet? They have the absolute best batteries, specifically the Acer W510, which gets ~9 hours alone and ~15 hours with its keyboard dock attached.

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Iconia-W510-1422-10-1-Inch-Keyboard/dp/B009P7JJEC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370970287&sr=8-1&keywords=acer+w510

Its also far more powerful than that crappy Eee PC you mentioned. Oh, there's an Asus version of that same Acer tablet get-up but without the keyboard dock having a battery, the Asus Vivotab Smart ME400c.

Edit: The Amazon listing is a bit high, but with some searching around you should be able to find the tablet and dock for under $600 together or separate with the total still less than $600... just gotta look.

Any Netbook is not going to be able to handle 1080p video well. Nothing with the previous generations of Atom processors will. The most capable would be something with the AMD E-450 ultra mobile CPU in it, and even that's just very barely, but almost not, cutting it.

Your best bet is the Lenovo x130e, specifically the one with the AMD E-450 CPU in it and not the i3 (it will suck up battery life quickly). The most you'll see is 7 hours with mid brightness and wifi turned on, though, and only this in a perfectly ideal setting when the stars align and you are holding the winning lottery ticket in your hand.

Edit: Oh, and with that Lenovo... don't try to do anything while watching a 1080p video, either, including running background applications, because the video will stutter badly.
