I've been looking at buying a semi high performance laptop, used for light gaming, and general day to day PC use. I have more or less narrowed it down to the MSI GE60 series... It's one of the lighter weight laptops in it's class, has full 1080P display , and also a GTX 660M GPU...

I started looking for them, at various places, and came across a oddity at newegg.. They list two models "GE60 0ND-666US" and the "GE60 0ND-257US", where the only differences in the specs, seem to be the operating system... and possibly what is very likely a typo on the GPU... The 666US apparently comes with Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), and the 257US has Windows 8 (64bit).

Now, the only other spec that seems to be different , other then the OS, is the GPU... in the 666US, newegg lists the graphics card as a "GT 660M", where on the 257US they list the graphics card as a "GTX 660M". Now, from what I can tell, there is no such thing as a "GT 660M"... and, it seems that Newegg , is the only retailer that lists the MSI GE60 0ND-666US model at all...

Can anyone, shed any light on any of this...

I'm also curious , if anyone can tell me why I would want Windows 8, rather then Windows 7... I've tried Windows 8 and I really don't like it much.

Oh, and the MSI GE60 0ND-666US is about $100 cheaper then the GE60 0ND-257US...

Ok, according to MSI's sales/marketing... the GE60 OND-666US, should be identical to the GE60 OND-257US, with the only difference being that the former comes with Windows 7 Home Premium (64bit), where the later comes with Window 8 (64bit).

That is, the graphics card should be a GTX 660M in both of these models , and that apparently Newegg ordered the 666US version specifically to not have Windows 8 on it.

Now the dilemma that I'm facing, is I've gotten interested in a Sager NP7352, which has new i7 4th gen processor, a GTX 765M GPU, with a 95% NTSC Color Gamut in Matte Finished Surface screen, and other do-dads for right around $1200... So, now I'm trying to decide if I need all the newest stuff and , what would appear to be a much better GPU in that of the GTX 765M... or if I should save $200 bucks and go for the "GE60 0ND-666US" with good old Windows 7 on it.
