Hi there!

My friend has run into some laptop problems. First, he started noticing that every once in a while plugging in the charger would actually cause the laptop to turn off (eventually leading to the final death of his battery), and second, the screen was damaged. He is considering getting a new laptop.

I was wondering what could be causing the laptop to die whenever the charger was plugged in, because if fixing the laptop is simply a matter of replacing the charger and the screen, then it could save him some money. What's the most likely cause of this?

Thanks,

My guess is that the charger and laptop were mismatched at some point, and the charger is pumping too much voltage to the laptop. The laptop has built in safety which is probably what is causing the shutdown. The model of the laptop should indicate how much power it needs, and the output of the charger should be on its label. see if they match/mismatch.
