Hello everyone,

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y560 and lately it's been randomly crashing on me.

What happens is this: The screen will go black for a few seconds and it'll tell me that the graphics driver has crashed and recovered successfully (something along those lines; I can't remember the exact wording atm.)... and I'll continue to use my laptop and it'll eventually get the blue screen of death. I feel like it has something to do with the screen hardware or something but I don't really know how to look into it.

I had Windows 8 when this problem started occuring and I thought it was due to drivers not being compatible so I put Windows 7 back on it by doing a complete reformat and re-installing the drivers, but the problem still persists. Anyone have any idea how I can fix this?

Also, if I need to provide any other information, let me know. Thanks.

It could be the case; I think I remember it being hot whenever it happens. Is there a way to check and was there a solution to the problem?

Thanks.

CPUZ i is a program that allows you to check your temps of the cpu and gpu. Its weird you've elimated the issue being the HDD. It can also be an incompatible driver , try installing the driver direct from lenovo if it still happens unistall the driver and use the one windows updates suggests. If all else fails your GPU would need a Reball, reflowing isnt durable.

Try

Run > Event Viewer

Report back

Most likely it would be your Graphics Card overheating like others have pointed out. It can cause your device to shut down. Do you use a cooling pad?

Ok so it seems the CPU temperature is around 60 degrees C idle, mobo is 54 degrees and HDD is 39 degrees. Not sure if these temperatures are good or bad.

I have the drivers from Lenovo's website currently installed but I'll try uninstalling them and see what Windows update offers.

I opened the event viewer but I'm not sure what I should be looking for exactly. The main overview and summary page doesn't have any events from the looks of it.

As for cooling pad, I don't use one.

(Also, currently reinstalling lenovo drivers because Windows Update didn't suggest any updates)

Looks like Windows gave me some standard VGA drivers; going to test those for a while and see if I get the issue.

If it DOES end up being the GPU overheating, is there a way to clean it out or something so that the problem goes away? I know I could probably just get a cooling pad or something, but I'd rather address the route of the problem if possible.

Thanks for your responses guys. I'll update you guys if the problem is solved with Windows drivers or not.

Alright so unfortunately it looks like the Windows Drivers didn't work for too long :(. The laptop got extremely hot after a while and it just shut off (though I didn't get a BSOD like I normally do this time).

So I tried re-installing the Lenovo drivers again and the same problem as before is happening again. Any other suggestions?
