Hi everyone,

This forum I found a while back and was both extremely helpful ,very quick to respond and very nice on the whole... So unfortunately I return for help with what is rapidly becoming a semi-serious problem for me.

About a month or two ago I started having Blue Screens of Death... the computer would make a noise, the sound of a repeated quick "knocknocknocknock" like you would imagine a broken, frozen computer would make, then lock up for 10 secs, proceed to Blue Screen Of Death. It says something about IRQ_NOT_EQUAL or soemthing and quickly says if you have changed the hardware or software change it back, (Which is what is bothering me, I did not change anythng [that i can remember of course] to precipitate this!)

I have an Acer Aspire V3-551-8887 bought from Best Buy..either late October or Early November of last fall (2012). The ONLY Thing I can remember doing to it, was install new RAM Sims, from 4gb up to 8GB , which I actually discussed immediately prior to purchasing, and said, lets get the MAX this will hold, YOU pick it out, and YOU do it for me in case there is any issue. Not any issue at all and it was like $40 bucks or something so it was very reasonable. never a problem and I really never ran the machine w/o it .

Never a problem until recently. I have to admit, I did start hearing the 'sound' Windows 7 makes when you like plug in a USB drive or cord, or a camera card into the SD slot, when I move it sometimes or pick it up or carry it, but I haven't inserted anything etc. Then the BSOD started. ... and kept on keepin on.

This is what I have got now- it says this in a little window ) THE DAMNED THING DID IT AGAIN AS I WAS TYPING THIS. I moved the laptop on my lap to readjst the position and bbbzzzzzzt knockknockknockknockknock BSOD.

Problem Event Name : Blue Screen
OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

BCCode: d1
BCP1: FFFFF8800C4A516C
BCP2: 0000000000000002
BCP3: 0000000000000008
BCP4: FFFFF8800C4A516C
OS Version: 6_1_7601
Service Pack: 1_0
Product: 768_1

It then lists two "files" apparently on my computer that "describe the problem" which I can neither find nor access/open up. So that is no help.

OK I Am sorry to bother or waste anyones time and please do not hollar at me for not wording this or formating this right, I am not a regular here and I am just a poor sucker sap looking for help . I KNEW I should have just bought the big supercomputer ASUS $1200 laptop when I had the money and saw it but i thought "its so huge and I just dont want to spend all the money on this". Oh well.

Hm, htoskrnl.exe is a memory based kernel image, sounds like it's corrupt.

Well, here's an idea. Try:

1. Boot into safe-mode

2. Open command prompt in windows as an admin

3. Type in "chkdsk /f" without the "s, then wait until it's done.

What this does is that it erases ANY corrupt data on your HDD. This might include some personal files may they be corrupted as well.

Hi All,

Just wanted to come back to this-

I ran the in depth Chkdsk, actually did the thorough ChkDsk for bad sectors and automatically repair errors etc. took an hour or two ( a long time.) It said nothing was wrong.... no help there.

I did consider my hard drive being bad. I mean its fairly new and never catastrophically dropped. It might have been bumped around ornce or twice and its possible the dog knocked it off the bed once (not very high but I guess it could be) but never really Disaster-like...

I did get a Western Digital Passport a few months back so I can use USB 3 to back up to the 1 TB drive just in case... but still. I hear no sounds indicating crash...

So I ask ya'll this. Is there a way I can repair that error above or am I just screwed? THANKS AGAIN this forum and ya'll righteous peoples are really awesome.

Hi guys - Quick question/update-

It was getting to the point my computer was no longer functional- it was resetting w/ the BSOD 5+ minimum times a day in the past 5 days was doing back-to-back resets and sometimes it would hangup upon reset. I was getting to the point it was going to be flung across the room and hope to make as big a bang as possible when I realized, in the first week of April, I was luckily gifted with a 1TB Western Digital Passport HDD... We were at BestBuy looking for one for my father (who had suffered *SERIOUS* infestations on his machine due to negligence, non-secure-browsing and not realizing he was falling for traps left and right) and he had a ton of data needing saved but also needed to completely wipe the machine... Well anyway the WD HDD's were on a great sale so I got one luckily for helping out... and I had backed up my machine that day, put it away and forgot it.

ANYWAY - I decided to try this out... I booted off a Windows Recovery CD, and did a System Restore from my device. Looks like it worked! I am not 100% sure because it's only been a few hours but so far so good- My question(s) is/are, is there a way to scan for errors or check to see if I'm all good? Like, the program you showed me earlier to see the problem , is there a program to check and see if I'm functioning 5x5 all good?

OK THANK YOU AGAIN For everyone's help ya'll are some righteous peoples and I appreciate it.

Hey, glad to hear things are looking up! Here are various utilities for various components:

For the hard drive: HD Tune, chkdsk (Windows utility), HD Sentinel, CrystalDisk Info, or HDAT2

For memory: MemTest86+

For CPU: Prime95

For GPU: Unigine or Furmark

Some of those are more user friendly than others, but all are useful. :)
