Hi,
I have an Asus eeePC1015 with Win7 starter that has been working flawlessly since I got it about 2 years ago.

Since last week, I'm unable to complete Windows startup: Windows starts but freezes with the pointer in the middle of the screen.

I am able to open Windows in safe mode, and it seems to work just fine.

However, when I start in safe mode with networking, it also freezes.

Restored system to earlier date, but still have the problem.

Any idea what the problem could be and how I could solve it ?

Thanks

Rather than do a Windows restore, have you tried doing a factory restore?

When system powers on just hit F9 once before Windows starts to boot.

You should then get the F9 recovery system and then just follow the prompts to do the restore and the C: partition will be returned to the state it was in when you first powered on the system. Though note this does not effect the D: partition, which is reserved for storing your data and you'll have to delete anything you don't want kept on the system in that partition.

I actually tried this several times, but the system restore didn't work.

But, I found a way to solve it that I found on another site: went into the BIOS settings first (F2 on startup) and THEN chose F9 in startup settings: that worked alright.

Hope this will help others.

Thx for the reply.
