Hello,

I’m looking for a new gaming laptop and am conflicted. What I’m seeking spec wise is as follows:

Intel i7 processor
At least a GTX 675 video card (or an ATI equivalent)
16 GB RAM
750 GB 7200 RPM HD (with possibly a 128+ GB SSD boot as well)

I have found many laptops that have these specs from Dell, HP, ASUS, CyberPower, iBuyPower and MSI. Here’s my dilemma:

Best Price: iBuyPower and ASUS
Highest Price: Dell (their Alienware prices are absurdly high when compared to similar systems – If only they let you fully customize their non-Alienware laptops these days)
Worst Specs: HP (really pathetic video card options)

My dilemma is that I read of so many horror stories when it comes to service and new systems that have defects when you first open the box from nearly everyone by Dell (most notably CyberPower, iBuyPower and MSI. I currently have a Dell laptop that has had its problems, but at least I know I can rely on their in-house warranty to fix issues.

I have no problem spending $1600-$1800 on a system (of course I’d prefer not to), but I’m afraid that I’ll end up doing so and getting a dud because I’m not willing to spend $2200+ for a Dell.

And yes, before you ask, I have made the rounds of Tigerdirect, Fry’s and Newegg comparing specs and prices.

Right now, I’m leaning towards an ASUS from a site called Prostar (http://www.pro-star.com/), does anyone have any reviews or experience with them of note?

David

Falcon has a very nice 17" laptop, yes. But at close to $4000 (after minor changes and the extended warrenty, that's over double I can afford. Thank you though for the suggestion.

Falcon Northwest sells rebranded Clevo/Sager laptops at ridiculous prices. I don't know why anyone would buy from that company.

LPC-Digital and Mythlogic sell Clevos for better prices and have better customer service.
