Sony Cybershot DSC-WX80 or DSC-WX100?

i know more about photography than videography, so i may not be helpful there. so someone else may want to chime in.

but i do know what some of the numbers mean. like for night/low light video, you want to find a lower Lux number. the lower the number the darker the enviroment can be and still give you a quality image. 300-500 lux would be typical indoor lighting, 1000 lux would be studio lighting, 1-3 lux would be a clear night with a full moon.

i would recommend a CMOS sensor if in your price range. since HD video is in the 2MP range, they sensors don't need to be huge, so your still image quality wont match a photography camera.

so.. of the 2 cameras you mentioned in the begining, i would go for the wx100. based on sensor, and image features.

fps translates a little differently in videography. 25fps could be listed as 25hz, or 720p25 (720 progresive lines at 25fps or 25hz). and becouse of how progresive vs interlaced works, you can aslo see 720i50 (720 interlaced lines at 50fps or 25hz)

either way, fps makes the motion look smoother. just like video games. tv/movies are typically 25-30fps, select new movies (hobbit,avatar) if seen in the theater are 48fps. but in the 720i vs 720p case, you can get more fps at a reduced image quality.
