I need HELP everyone! Please help me. :"(

Hey

I'm trying to buy a laptop, that handle all my mechanical engineering programs, but can't seem to find the right one. I have looked up many but the ones I like or my only source to buy from is limited, or I am not sure about. I want to invest in a long lasting laptop, that I can upgrade over the years, and still be powerful handling everything I throw it. Gonna be doing some network security and a ton of coding in python, c++, pearl, and be running backtrack and other ubuntu/unix/linux operating system. Also need to know what is the best external wifi card/usb to run security checks outside the network range.[outside the complex) will be branching out in reverse engineering. I don't want to buy a laptop that put be back financially, make my life harder if i have to run circles just to get work done.

1. What is your budget? See 2

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering? Does not matter

Asus Black 15.6" N56DP-DH11 Laptop PC with AMD A10-4600M Processor - 8GB / 1TB - Black

.3. What screen resolution do you want?
HD

.4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
Will be my only laptop and will be my only computer. No desktops. Desktop replacement laptop.

5. How much battery life do you need? Not important. Will be plugged most of the time.

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?

Yes, World of Worldcraft, Will be my free time stress free time. So i dont want to be stressing while playing. High

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Coding, unix/ubuntu/linux backtrack, network security, c++, python, html, java, mathlab. Engineering software.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need? 750hhd, 1tb hhd, and if i can use main ssd and then a hhd. Wonderful

.9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
This my only source, this why being able to upgrade is important to me.

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop? 5years+++ but as long as possible

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?Not important, might need to switch it out for a ssd if necessary, but not preferred.

The website that i linked is my only option, at the moment.

i looked at your site, and other potential laptops, but i really liked your first choice, i highly believe that is well balanced for your work and it will last with you cause:

http://www.icuracao.com/electronics/computers/laptops-notebooks/laptop/asus-black-15-6-n56dp-dh11-laptop-pc-with-amd-a10-4600m-processor-8gb-1tb-black.html

Build by ASUS which is great plus
the graphic card HD 7730M is manufactured using the latest 28nm and

The design of the Radeon 7700M series has its roots to the Cape Verde chip as found, for example, on the desktop Radeon HD 7750 with 512 1D shader cores and 32 texture units. However, it has a core clock of only 575 - 675 MHz compared to 800 MHz for the HD 7750. As a result, power consumption is expected to be much lower. While the desktop-version supports PCIe 3.0, the 7700M-Series doesn't (according to AMD).

source : http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7730M.72678.0.html

and from what i know for sure is the desktop version 7750 is very power efficient and cool and quiet, and i admire that in desktop and laptop config.

Also you have CPU with 4 threads so that is great, and your engineering work surely will benefit from those threads.

so my opinion is proceed with your first choice and instinct and you wont be disappointment, but i doubt that laptop will perform the same for the next 5 years or will be on par with other hardware in the next 5 years.

HOWEVER, if you can suffer the portability and attached screen of laptop, and want a something to really last 5 years, BUILD an APU Mini ITX machine, that will give you plenty of room for expansion latter on, while you stated that you only had one store, but what i think is something like this :

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157357

and again and AMD APU with 4 threads that is 65W, + 8 GB of ram, the key component here, is there much room of upgrading, including AMD future FM-2 APU`s and you can add whatever Graphic card you wish, but something low profile like HD 7750, and it will cost you much less, and it will be a mini ITX setup that will look like this :

http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2010/07/how-to-build-a-touchscreen-all-in-one-pc/in-win-mini-itx-case.jpg

http://www.advancetec.co.uk/media/catalog/product/cache/1/image/1250x1250/b65b7106e6199ae52d7f08f5a5033ae0/s/t/st-fc8b-evo_-_streacom_fc8_evo_black_fanless_home_theatre_mini-itx_aluminium_case_with_usb_3.0_ready_no_psu.jpg

It will cost much less, but it will be harder to assemble, but once you do, there is better upgrade path, and it will be small and portable, but with no screen attached like laptop, so just my thoughts.

thank you!!!
This so very much appreciated.
^.^
this great I feel much better about this thanks to you. I am actually going to look into the info you just give me.

Of the laptop options given at that website, the Asus N56DP-DH11 does seem to be your best option.

I might also suggest you look at "Mobile Workstations" as a better option for your needs. Depending upon the engineering software you plan to use a certified graphics card may be recommended/needed (usually NVidia Quadro or AMD Firepro cards) which are usually only found in a mobile workstation

I would like to add a second website with a much more wide range of laptops. And yes I have been looking into mobile workstations, but can't seem to find the right retailer, as I don't like making purchases online. Even if I pay more then if I was on amazon or newegg.

Wow, that Asus is very overpriced and a poor choice [strike](is it really 10.2 pounds cause that is twice as heavy as it should be)[/strike]. Looked and it is 5 pounds.

You should probably order from a different site if you can that same asus computer from amazon is about $50 cheaper.

I would recommend the lenovo y500. 1080p screen i5 and 750m (which is much faster than the 7730m). It should be around $899. I would not buy anything without a 1080p screen (especially for coding). Wow likes cpu performance is is not multithreaded very well so intel is your best bet.

Lenovo is good...but I would recommend customizing the ThinkPad t430 or getting the ideapad y410p or 510p, depending on what screen size you want...
