Just acquired a Samsung NC10. It can't run any of the 3D screensavers which does not seem right. The error message is "Could not find any compatible direct3d devices". I have replaced microsoft drivers with intel drivers installed after using the intel discovery software. I have installed the latest version of directX for xp sp3, 9c. The chipset is 945 mobile. I have even updated the mainboard chipset drivers to the latest version.

I found this:

"If you run "dxdiag" from the start menu and go to the "display" tab,
you can see, that Direct3D Acceleration is disabled, but you are not given the
possibility to switch it back on"

Which is exactly what I see.

That same thread suggested to edit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Direct3D\Drivers

Double click (on the right hand side) the text "SoftwareOnly" and change the value from "1" to "0"

But in regedit on my machine the value is already 0

Huh. Thanks for that. I thought this was all to do with the onboard graphics. And I thought it must be a specific problem to my unit as there were so very few results when I googled. I guess hardly anyone who uses a netbook bothers about whether the deluxe screensavers work or not!

Haha, that's fair! Yeah this is exactly why they load starter editions of Windows on these things. They're great, just limited. A lot of people like to load Linux on them as a result.
