Hi,
I am planning to buy dell inspiron 17 special edition (650M 2GB DDR5), but i am not sure whether to buy i7 3630qm or i5 3230m? Is it much difference in gaming and daily multitasking activities (no video editing, photoshop etc)?? Is it worth extra bucks?

Thanks for your expert opinion!

If the only difference is the cpu, just get the i5. As you're only gaming and light computer use, the i5 is perfect.

zrobbb, we're talking about mobile chips here.

The i5 is NOT a quad core like normal, it's a dual core with hyperthreading. (As are all mobile i3s, i5s, and most i7s.)

OP, spend the extra little bit for the QM, as that's an actual quad core CPU.

But would the i7 quad core makes much difference in intense graphic games? I know the 650m GPU is mid-range, would the GPU be the limiting factor here in intense graphic games like devil may cry 5 or resident evil 6?

Thx again!

Its gaming on a laptop, it will never be that great. The difference in gaming between the i5 and i7 will be negligible. My advice is save your money and go for the i5.

You don't need to ask the same thing multiple times - just have a little patience.

Hyperthreading, for all intents and purposes, doesn't do anything for gaming. That's why a desktop i7 (quad core with hyperthreading) performs exactly the same as a desktop i5 (quad core without hyperthreading) when it comes to games.

No, a quad core CPU won't help with GRAPHICALLY intensive games, but it will make a world of difference for CPU-bound games, including strategy games, most console ports, and so forth.
