So 2 days ago my laptop locked up at night and only way to fix it was by doing a hard reset, when trying to log back in it got to the starting windows screen then blue screened. The blue screen said "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" I had read up that it was easy enough to fix this problem by doing a chkdsk so I got my recovery disk stuck it in and when it all loaded up it I tried to click r to get into the recovery menu it just froze and wouldn't load so I decided to hell with it I will just wipe my drive so I loaded the disk up to just wipe everything and do a clean install of windows but it just froze up again at setup starting up was like that for around 3 hours.

I'm taking it to PC world tonight to see what they can do for it if anything but Im worried about the price that it could be around. Im a student so money doesn't really grow on trees haha

Anyone got any idea what could be the cause of this ?

Thanks in advance

Sounds like your hard drive crashed. That's about the easiest thing to replace in most laptops. You should be able to get a good hard drive for less than $100. Or, if you plan on keeping your laptop for awhile, splurge and get an SSD.

Money is made of paper, paper is made out of tree's... essentially, money grows on tree's. :))))))

Aside from that, when you say it freezes is it freezing once the disk is in? or every single time. are you able to get to bios without it freezing? What version of windows are you trying to install, and what computer do you have.

Bios is flash, Twztechman might be right. The HDD seems to be going out. Although, i had this issue on a cheap HP i fixed for someone, and it ended up needing a new drive. That would be the first place I look in your case.

Hmmmm I know how to fit a hard drive might be cheaper for me just picking one up from amazon or something instead of having pc world giving me a run down of costs...

Thanks for the help

I agree. Sounds like the hdd died. Could be the controller or something else, but hdd is most likely. If you can afford it buying a new from amazon would be a fairly easy cheap thing to check.
