I have just started college and have decided that I need a laptop for work and personal use. I am on a strict budget of 1,400 NZ, but might be able to get another $100 from somewhere.
I have looked at the Alienware m14x, but unfortunately they do not ship to NZ and are about $2000 to buy here.
If you could just provide me with different options or opinions I would be very thankful.
Note: I have been looking at the Toshiba Satellite P850/049, I have read reviews that say it the hard drive runs a bit slow, any opinions on this laptop would also be helpful.
Thanks

It doesn't look that way unfortunately, however I'm not to sure if I would want to get one shipped from America anyway.
One reason is I would have to get an adapter which I'm sure I could find here in NZ if I tried, but I'd rather not. That, and shipping it would be more expensive because of GST and Customs...

Do Anyone think this would suffice for gaming and such?

The Radeon 7670m is a fairly weak card. It could play some newer games on low to medium settings. It all depends on what you are trying to play.

For serious laptop gaming, I wouldn't suggest anything less than a GT 650M.
