Hi, I am new to this website. I have a recent problem with my acer aspire 5755G laptop. It gets stuck a lot and then i have to restart it using the power button because sometimes even the cursor does not work. I have running registry tests and even tried memtest but nothing works. They all say that there are no errors.
I even tried removing the ram and reinserting it but there was little change in speed. I even defragmented the hard disk drive. Please help me. B the Way it is a core i5 with 4 gb of ram, a 500 gb hdd, a nvidia GT 630m and Windows 7

When you re-install windows your do a clean install of the whole OS using the Windows disk. So back up any files you want onto a jump drive before hand. Windows repair is basically the same thing. I believe it requires the disk to, but since your not doing a completely new install you do not have to back up files, but the way your computer is running, it might be smart to back them up anyway.

If you have a bad virus on your computer that even your anti virus can't get rid of, then a clean install is the way to go

the laptop you bought should have came with a windows cd and the activation code in case you have to re-install windows. Check all the CD's and information that came with it

I was thinking... one way to tell for certain whether it's hardware of software, would be to create a Linux bootable CD or USB. Launch with that OS, try it for a while, and see if your problem reappears.

If it does, then it's got to be hardware. If not, then it's either Windows, a bad driver, or possibly malicious software.

You could also run an anti-virus program from Linux, as well as use it to recover the data from your hard drive if Windows isn't stable enough for that.

Sounds like you have to change the boot priorities. Do you know what your BIOS setup key is? It changes from manufacturer to manufacturer, but it's always one of the function keys. If you don't know what it is, then press them all in rapid succession as soon as you turn on the system, you have to do this before Windows starts loading.

I must warn you, though. If you have never done anything with the BIOS settings, then I must warn you to be very, very careful and not to tamper with anything you don't understand.

All you have to do here, is go to the Boot tab, where you will find your boot device priorities. Normally, the optical drive comes first, and then the hard drives. Select priority #1 and change it so that it will attempt booting from the USB first. Save the changes before you exit, or they will have no effect.

Also, I should tell you that I recently experienced problems booting from an Ubuntu USB, kept getting errors I couldn't get rid of even though I tried different versions of Ubuntu. If the same should happen to you, then you may want to do what I did: try a bootable CD.

okay i booted it into Ubuntu using a CD and i found something really critical. When i tried to partition the hdd it sad that i have a few bad sectors in my hdd and that either it is a manufacture defect or it has been damaged by a few bumps so im gonna take it the service center and have it fixed with my warranty. Thanks for your help
