Upgrading laptop from core 2 duo to i5

Am an architecture student and am surviving on a core 2 duo processor, 3 gb ram with a much needed to be replaced graphics card.. the laptops a dell inspiron 1545. i was wondering if it is possible to upgrade it to an i5 or is it just better buying a new laptop ?

Time for a new laptop. They are inherently unmodifiable.

@bignastyid you would have to talk human !!! well if it helps i need to 3d model some views and rendering takes up most of the effort... currently my screen blanks out and comes back alive saying, your graphic card had just recovered... every half hour.. which i dont think is good :/

On some laptops, the gpu is upgradeable. Most, not.

The processor (CPU) is basically the engine. It poweres everything else. usually on a laptop, it is hardmounted to the motherboard, and not changeable.
With a desktop, it is generally designed to be changeable, within certain limits (same 'socket')

The only things you can really modify on any given laptop are the RAM and hard drive, pretty much everything else is soldered to the motherboard. There's no set specifications to laptop hardware like there is to desktop hardware. Laptop hardware is made more for the manufacturer's specific set of specifications than a general set.
