Hi,

I bought a SONY VAIO a little over a yr ago and was lured into buying the extended warranty with it.

my LCD got damaged during travel... and its just the LCD as the notebook works when you connect it to the TV.

SONY has refused to fix it for the reason that it is costing them more than what I paid. So they are offering me a sum too small to purchase any other laptop or the damaged notebook back.

Any advice will be appreciated.

Thank you.

I couldn't have said it better than Prostar. I just wanted to add that a friend of mine had a $400-$500 laptop and it stopped working about 2 years ago and Dell replaced it with a newer and more expensive XPS with a GT 555m.

For future reference you should go with Dell, Asus, MSI, Lenovo (Any Manufacturer other than HP and Sony)

If the screen was damaged when the laptop was on an airline/train. You can see if the airline will cover the repair. Also check with your home owners insurance to see if the laptop could be covered. If the screen is cracked you can take the screen out and google the service part #number and see what the part cost online. You can also look on eBay for a same module laptop that dead and do a screen swap.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys!

My warranty did cover accidental damage. And they actually got the product shipped over for repair. But after keeping it for 2 whole months they called to tell me that they are going to scrap my notebook so I cant even detach the LCD and try to look it up on the web.. i should have done that before sending it ...

they offered me $200 less than the actual cost of it let alone the extra $200 i paid for the warranty....

p.s. the airline is being equally cold. And the owner will definitely not be able to help.

I am super pissed and hence am probably not in the right mind to make a rational decision and hence needed advice.

By law they cant scrap your notebook on you without your permision. It your league property till you sign a release letter.if they do try and scrap
It without a release letter you have a good case in small claims
Court to get all of your money back. The extended
Warranty is paid out of an insurance
Policy. Not by the laptop vendor. When I worked for micro center as a repair tech had to fight them a few times to have them repair laptops and pc that were fine if the parts were replaced. The extended warranty comp wanted to be cheap.
