In my home gym, I have a TV that I watch while I work out (just gets basic cable / 60-channels).

Sometimes I bring my laptop down there and connect it to the TV via HDMI so I can watch streaming online content (Youtube / free online episodes of Daily Show, etc.)

But strikes me that this is kind of a big hassle...why should I have to lug my computer down there when it really just serves as a conduit for my wifi + an internet browser.

Wondering if there is some sort of...I don't know, dongle or adapter that I can plug into my TV that will serve as a wi-fi receiver (essentially wifi-enabling my TV), and ALSO includes a basic internet browser, so I can stream free online content?

Conceptually, this doesn't seem like it should be that hard...but I guess a browser requires an operating-system(?), so maybe that's the sticking point?

Bottom line: I want to watch streaming internet video (via my home's wi-fi network) on my TV. Is there an easier way to do it than hooking up my laptop to it?

This is the device you want http://www.asiapads.com/en/4-2-android-tv-stick-ugoos-ug007b-rk3188-quad-core-2gb-ram-8gb-rom-2363.html

If not that one one like it they are android pcs the size of usb sticks with an HDMI end connector. You can do pretty much anything you could do on your android phone, just on you HDMI TV, i bought one for my grandmother to teach her how to browse the web on my old 27" LCD i gave her. I dont think she uses it much lol. If you do go with asiapads they take about 4 weeks to deliver if you live in the states, so don't freak out lol.

I just noticed that one is delayed, but i found a cheaper one that should suite your needs as well...

Or, pretty much any PC from the last 5-6 years or so would work. Find one on craigslist for $50, maybe a low end graphics card for the right HDMI output, add a wireless kbd&mouse...done.

For random browsing and TV, it doesn't need a lot of horsepower. And with a full PC, you're not limited to specific 'channels'.

the roku2xs is an excellent choice for online streaming video such as from netflix, hulu and other sources listed in the channel store, however, this device does NOT include a browser for web surfing and does NOT support a keyboard.

the sony streaming player does not have as many choices in channels but does include a browser and does support a keyboard.

a small htpc or older tower will also work. a pc is able to access content a smart tv or internet streaming box/console can not because of hardware or browser limitations. this gives you the most content.

a ps3 or xb360 includes a browser and some basic internet streaming applications but it is more limited.

having an android device hooked up to your tv would also work but realize that such devices have limitations as well.
