Right click on the icon and hit properties. Make sure the Target is going to "C:\Program Files\MSI Afterburner\MSIAfterburner.exe"

To fix the icon just hit change icon and select the one you would like.

I have this happen a lot. What you right click on desktop> adjust resolution> advanced> change to 16 bit color. Your screen will flash and then you will see the icon show up correctly. Now you have to restart your computer and then do the same step to change back to 32 bit.

my AB files are in "C:\Program Files (x86)\MSI Afterburner" but i did what wanderer11 said and this worked, although you did say this happens a lot, so would it be considered a temporary fix?

@bucknutty
does this file location seem o.k.
i could just uninstall the software and re-install it but for now i have the icon back

thank you both for your input i appreciate it

When I say happens a lot I mean to a bunch of different shortcuts. It is not a temporary fix. I have never had the icon revert to that default thing once I did this fix.

Your file location is correct. The location I supplied was for a 32bit windows install. you have the 64 bit version of windows, however afterburner runs in the 32 bit so it gets installed to the x86 folder.
