I really hope someone here can help me.

My wife was using her laptop today, looked away for a second and the screen was blank. It was not black, there was still light in it but everything had disappeared.

I have tried to turn it on and off again. Turn it off and remove the battery, holding the power button down for approx 20 seconds, then plugging the laptop in (without battery) and the same issue occured. I tried using the FN + testing various F buttons, and when I pressed the F button that switches screens, the screen went black and then turned back on once I clicked the F button again. I tried FN + the arrow buttons and I could see the screen light go up and down, but nothing more.

Finally I tried plugging an external monitor into the laptop but got no display on the external monitor.

Any ideas what could be wrong??
Thanks in advance!

Check the ram. While off, unplugged & battery out, remove the ram, then plug in and turn on. If you get blinking caps/num lock lights or error beeps it's a good sign. Unplug and replace a single stick of ram. If that doesn't work, repeat with the other stick of ram. One of the sticks may be bad, keeping the laptop from completing POST. If that doesn't do it, post back and we'll move to the next step.

I have tested both RAM's (sorry forgot to mention that). As far as I can see from my online research, this issue is due to the LCD cable that goes between the motherboard and the screen. The power signal is going through, but something is preventing the image to be transmitted to the screen. Do you agree?

I'm having a simmilar problem I think... I have a Alienware m17x r2 and the screen won't show anything when I turn my pc on, not even when I try to connect to a monitor. This happened when I disconnected my computer from a monitor of my friend with a HDMI cable... Is there any solutions? I can't see boot options or anything
