Razer Tiamat or A50's or A40's?

Hey I'm planning on getting a good headset for my pc and presently looking at the razer tiamat or astro a50's or a40's. If anyone has tried these, please let me know which would be the best option. Also will my motherboard support the 7.1 audio?
Lastly what is the mix amp used for and is it necessary?

Both are bad choices.

Razer audio is the purest form of garbage sound quality wise.

Buy some nice audiophile headphones(clip on mic with it) and use a sound card. You can get a decent set of cans for 100+ dollars.

If you still want 'gaming headphones' then get the A50s, they will be okay. A sound card will not help you for gaming headphones too mostly.

You're link is broken, is it the ASUS P8Z77-V LK ? Then yes it supports the 7.1 headphones.

Avoid the razer like hell.

Out of that setup, I'd pick the A40s. I have a pair and absolutely love them - they're like the A50s, but lighter weight because they aren't wireless.

If you have a quiet area to play (that's important) go with edogawa's suggestion. However, I would go further and suggest buying the Astro mixamp if you're not using a sound card and very premium headphones - the mix amp works like a receiver/amplifier combo in miniature, and allows you to filter out things like the sound in games so you can hear footsteps better, or up the bass of music, ect.

So the mix amp is not necessary just something to enhance the quality. If I do not get the mix amp will I still get 7.1 audio because my mobo supports it?

It's not necessary, it's a neat little gadget, but if you get a good sound card(with CMSS-3D or Dolby) with good set of cans you will have no problem hearing footsteps at all.

You would be paying around 300 for decent headphones and sound card. The thing with good headphones is that they can be used for gaming and music.

Astro a40 may be a convenient and good option though for just gaming, but if you listen to music you want good stereo headphones.

If you have a 7.1 surround headset and your motherboard supports it, it'll work.

As for the sound card, yes it will make everything sound amazing, as will audio headphones... but most gaming headphones are going to sound just as good as audiophile headphones if you don't have a sound card.

I looked up on the sennheiser and it looks pretty nice - I cant decide. Is it really better the Astro a50's?

Yes they are better. You can even read the Amazon reviewers saying there's no comparison. PC360 with the mixamp would be a great combo.
