Apple has more apps than any other market. Which is one of the strong points for the iPad. But I agree with Brett. You can find just about anything for the Kindle Fire HD for way less than on an iPad.

I read a review at http://www.newsmicks.com/2013/04/07/review-on-kindle-fire/ I did not know fires had pretty much the same functions as ipad. I assume the paperwhite is only a reader. I'm probably going to go with the 8.9 or 7. Do you use your older kindle for tv shows and movies as well?

Hi :)

My early Kindle Fire has a good screen, but at 7 inches its a little small for movies or TV... although it does do them perfectly...

I mostly use it for reading news sites and reading books...very good at both...

I bought my daughter a Kindle paperwhite for reading books at which it is STUNNING...and the battery lasts for well over a month... although it can be used for the net (in gray-scale) I really wouldn't lol...

All the best Brett :)

First thing you want to tell about what is your budget range. Then you can compare between 2. In picture resolution, kindle fire HD has no comparison with ipad. The ipad has a high resolution. Ipad has many Apps as compared to kindle fire. The touch of ipad is very good and kindle fire HD Cannot beat the ipad in this feature. The price of ipad is high.

I have a Nexus 7. Large enough to read small text fronts from textbooks and small enough to carry in the inner pocket of a jacket.

Usage is primarily limited to reading/studying. Secondary usage is watching movies (only 2 since I bought it in February), playing retro pinball games, and limited web surfing.

Since I do not like glossy screens, have a Fosman anti-glare screen protector on my Nexus 7. Not the best anti-glare screen since it make text at bit too grainy for my taste, but it will do for now until I can find a suitable replacement anti-glare screen protector.

The only drawback of the N7 is the lack of any expansion slots. However, the 32GB of internal storage is enough for my needs. Hopefully, by the time I want to buy a new tablet (not for another few years) there will be tablets with 64GB of internal storage.

Neither - Nexus 10 or Galaxy Tab 2 IMHO. The Nexus for the high res screen (higher than an iPad Retina display) and the Samsung as they have a micro SD slot for increasing storage.
