I'm currently using a Asus g53s i7 2670qm 8gb ram 15.6 1080 560m 1tb HDD

I'm hoping to find something comparable with a backlit keyboard for less than 1k but I have come up short. Any suggestions? I'd also like it to weigh less than 8.5 lbs.

Lots of better laptops for about $900 but none have a backlit keyboard.

Get this. This Lenovo has the best eye candy backlit keyboard you'll ever see! I7 3630QM, GT650m (Option to add a second GT 650 usually around $140 "Ultrabay") Beautiful FHD screen. 1 Tb Harddrive

Same specs as the Lenovo is this Dell (if you prefer Dell) Apply coupon ?SR7RGSF91NZCS for another $50 off

This Asus is nice but the resolution is low and the price is somewhat...

The only downside is the 1366x768 display.

I have an ASUS for $800 with an i7-3610qm, 2gb 650m, backlit keyboard, windows 7
Cons only DVD, 4gb ram, 500gb 5400 HDD, 1366x768.

The screen is fine for me, better than most 13x7s Ive used.
The Ram is upgradeable to 16gb, (in the specs it says only 8 max but it WILL read 16)
The HDD is upgraded easily.

I got mine from tiger direct and would definately recommend to others.

In response to serious gamer I was going to buy a y580 for around $800 from lenovo, but they didn't ship it for over a month so I canceled. I cant say that this is always the case, just my experience. That y500 looks really good though!

That lenovo is kind of awesome! I've never had one before but my buddy has an 8yr old thinkpad he loves. I can't find an option for an empty ultrabay for me to put another HDD in it.

This seems like a lot for an expansion HDD slot:

Does anyone make a generic? It also says it can only do 740gig. Ideally I'd put a 128gb ssd in the main slot and the 1tb drive in the caddy. Do you know anything about using the ultrabay slot?

What kind of gaming do you do? If you aren't playing games like Crysis 3 or BF3, get something with an Nvidia 640m/650m or AMD equivalent. If not, I don't think you can get a laptop for under $1k with what you are looking for.

Ultrabay caddy is accessory and unfortunately it cost *gasp for air* $189. So an mSATA drive to plug into the mSATA port, then use the HDD it comes with makes a lot more sense. Just plug the SSD you already have in your parent/sibling/partner/friend's home build or sell it.
