1. What is your budget?
<$1000

2. What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
15-17" but willing to go bigger or smaller to make fit budget

3. What screen resolution do you want?
1080p ideally

4. Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
portable but weight not a huge issue.

5. How much battery life do you need?
Would like as much as possible- but not deal breaker

6. Do you want to play games with your laptop? If so then please list the games that you want to with the settings that you want for these games. (Low,Medium or High)?
Yes will be using this laptop for gaming when not at home with my desktop as old laptop is subpar (2.4 ghz T7770 Celeron duo core, ATI HD 2600 GPU, 4 GB RAM - 5 years old now).

Mostly playing Starcraft 2, various mmos such as GW2, Neverwinter, Tera, some WoW, and will surely pick up new games as time goes on. Would love to play on high settings if possible.

7. What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop? (Photo/Video editing, Etc.)
Basic internet use, e-mail, some work related tasks which require windows 7 currently.

8. How much storage (Hard Drive capacity) do you need?
500 GB should be plenty Would prefer a SSD for OS or hybrid for boot times.

9. If you are considering specific sites to buy from, please post their links.
open to anything reputable

10. How long do you want to keep your laptop?
4 years ideally, 3 years minimum

11. What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
any if one at all

12. Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons.
anything reputable

13. What country do you live in?
United States

14. Please tell us any additional information if needed.
Would prefer windows 7 for work programs, but windows 8 is doable as it is what i run on desktop and phone, but if windows 8 would love touch screen. Would like comparable performance to desktop if possible as desktop is currently >1 year old. Running Sandy Bridge i5 2500K @3.3ghz, 8 GB DDR3 Ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560Ti which runs current games on high settings.

Thanks for all the help! Been looking around this site and at newegg/tigerdirect and other sites to get ideas, but just way out of touch with current mobile computer parts and price for performance.

The Lenovo Y500 dominates this price range.

I strongly suggest this one if you can swing an extra $50

The GT 650m SLI performs about the same as a 670m at a fraction of the cost.

This version has the 1080 screen.

Or

For $880, you can get this version that has a single 650m and a 16GB SSD.
