Audio noob needs help totally confused and stressed.

Ahhey, Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. Let me give you a brief overview of my situation before I list of the parts and get to detailed.

So I recently had to replace my motherboard from a crosshair V to a crosshair V-z
since then my speakers will not work. I can not figure out how to fix it I have tried a sound card and different speakers.

I have logitech Z506 speakers and the computer parts I find relivent
Mobo: asus crosshair V -z
os: windows 7
CPU: AMD FX-8150
Sound blaster pci-e recond3d with 3.5 bay mount.

So yeah I can not get them to work when I plug them in to the mobo I cant get it recognize them let alone get my surround sound back. When I use the new sound card I got just to try and fix this it says "Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system" I have tried drivers from asus, switching the speakers, testing the speakers on other systems, I didnt re-install the OS when switching mobos could that be it? I would hate to have to do that but I am willing to try. Anything else that it might be?

PS. I do have sound through my USB head set and my tv monitor just not speakers.
Thanks again for your time and any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

Wait a minute, did you DISABLE or ENABLE your sound on the motherboard? You are supposed to DISABLE the onboard sound so you should NOT be able to get any sound out from the motherboard audio outputs.

*As per my checklist, if you are getting sound from the MOTHERBOARD that also means you have the ONBOARD audio selected as your audio solution, in which case the sound card is NOT disabled.

Please confirm you followed my checklist.

1st. Make sure onboard sound is disabled. Do this through the bios, not windows
2nd. Make sure that windows is outputting to your sound device. Do this by right clicking the speaker taskbar icon and click "playback devices".
Find the device you want to play sound out of and right click -> Set as default. If you don't see your device there then right click in the big empty white box and make sure that "Show disabled devices" and "Show disconnected devices" are check. (or they may have a circle next to them, same concept tho.)

try the above first and report back.

Also forgot to ask whether you installed your new sound drivers and if you got the latest ones for the web.

I am assuming you have disabled the onboard sound on the motherboard and have connected the output to your speakers from the correct port on the soundblaster card.

Alright, So I did forget to switch it on the motherboard and now they are showing up in "Sound" when I test them it plays noise through all 6 (including sub) normally. When I plug them into the sound card though it doesnt see them and running the disk still gives me the same error. Are my speakers not compatible?? also when I listen to music through them now the center and two rear seem to be almost mute with me only being able to hear if I put my ear to it.

Here's a checklist:

1) onboard sound DISABLED in BIOS

2) Install/reinstall the MAIN CHIPSET driver for your motherboard

3) Remove all sound drivers/software install the proper one for your sound card (must match your Windows version as well)

4) Verify the sound card appears in Device Manager

5) If required, change the Sound Device to your sound card (audio icon in lower-right, right-click, "Playback devices" then change to DEFAULT and TEST).

You won't have speaker issues so long as your not trying super expensive high Ohm speakers on a cheap audio setup. Those low volume speaker issues can usually be solved by inputting your speaker setup into the driver software. I Know you can access many audio driver config utilities through the control panel.

Now that I'm looking at your motherboard's sound card, why bother with the external one? It just as good, if not better(according to web chatter and stats).

Also before trying out your onboard audio may I recommend HT Omega as your next company to buy a sound card from?
I bought one and never went back to creative.

Yup I got it working sorry for the delay ended up working a double! the problem was fixed after the mainchipset and getting rid of all my drivers and re installing it. The sound card also needed to be in a 16x before installing then swapped into the express. weird but it worked and I noticed quite alot of differences with being able to play with the settings in the GUI and even before I noticed a lot less of white noise out of my speakers which I am really sensitive to.
